Free Cannabis picnic comes to Queensland for first time

HUNDREDS EXPECTED FOR QUEENSLAND’S FIRST EVER FREE CANNABIS PICNIC

BANDS, DJs & COMEDIANS TO HELP GET CROWDS HIGH

A Free Cannabis picnic will be held in Queensland for the first time this weekend at a local Gold Coast park, with hundreds expected to stand up for their rights by sitting down and having a friendly picnic.

Similar picnics have already been held three times in Sydney this year, with the events receiving widespread positive coverage across major media outlets – with the Sunday Telegraph, News.com.au, Daily Mail, The Huffington Post, Yahoo7, Pedestrian.tv and the Sydney Criminal Lawyers website all reporting on and publicising the events over the past six months.

The picnics have also garnered the interest of Australia’s music media, with major outlets such as Tone Deaf, Music Feeds, The Brag and Dopamine Magazine giving support to previous events.

A video of the April picnic held in Sydney and posted on Facebook by PR 4 THE PEOPLE also went viral, attracting tens of thousands of views, as well as hundreds of comments, likes and shares.

A number of bands and performers are so eager to be at the Gold Coast picnic at Albert Park on Saturday June 18, they’re all pitching in with their time and creativity for free.

Bands including Satisvibes and The High Grade will be joined by DJ Five8 and comedian Darren Hunter to help get the crowds high with excitement.

Just like at previous picnics in other states, it is expected the event will draw a truly diverse crowd – with cancer patients, pensioners, parents with sick children, university students, people living with disabilities, members of the LGBTI community, and pretty much everyone in between having a quiet lie-down on the day.

“With more and more people of all ages and backgrounds willing to come out of the closet as friends of cannabis, the government and police can only maintain their fictitious War on Drugs for so long,” Free Cannabis Qld executive director, Chris Hindi, said.

“We call these picnics ‘an act of civil disobedience’ but in coming years, these picnics will be regarded as nothing out of the ordinary with the majority of the community already supporting serious reforms of drug laws.

“We also invite everybody who cares about their friends to come join us and have a great weekend picnic with us all.”

The event has the official support of the  Drug Law Reform Party, The Greens, and Liberal Democrats party.
